The children from FAID wish Lebanon Trust’s friends and supporters a Merry Christmas and a happy and blessed New Year
The 2011 FAID’s Christmas Party was really an event – 120 attended it, the pupils, their parents and friends, the members of the Board, the Pastor of the German Speaking Evangelical Congregation in Beirut, the children of the Hermon Center for the Blind and Deaf.
After the traditional morning procession and Church service performed by Father Issam Ibrahim, the party began with a special animation , and the children performed Christmas dances and songs. The event was sponsored by Dunkin Donuts and Lebanese Lotto.
To close the day, Santa Claus visited each class and spoke with the children. He inspected their work and gave them gifts, which were a generous donations of the students of the American Language Center and other friends of the Institute. It was really a big day for all!
October – November 2011: a very successful mission to Beirut by Lebanon Trust
The volunteers travelled to Lebanon to visit the Father Andeweg Institute for the Deaf (FAID) and the Chatila refugee kindergarten, to deliver the donations and to work at the FAID school. It was a pleasure to meet our friends again, to see the children’s progress and visit the new kindergarten. More details on this page. A complete report will be sent to all our donors.
- FAID – Lebanon Trust financed a year of a speech therapist for the deaf children, who otherwise could not learn how to speak:
As Krikor Kasholian, FAID’s director, puts it:
“Many heartfelt thanks from FAID’s pupils and teachers to Lebanon Trust and its volunteers and supporters. Regular and frequent speech therapy really helps our children’s progress, and it is also a great encouragement to us to know that we have friends who care and work hard to help our school. Again, thank you Lebanon Trust and see you next year.”
- Kindergarten of the refugee camp of Chatila – Lebanon Trust co-financed the restored building and some equipment:
In the words of Mariam, the kindergarten’s principal:
“On behalf of the kindergarten of the Chatila refugee camp, the teachers and the children, I would like to express our warm appreciation of Lebanon Trust’s commitment to our institution. Also thanks to their fundraising efforts, this year we were finally able to offer to our children a completely refurbished building, safe, clean and with more spacious rooms. We hope that our cooperation with Lebanon Trust will continue, and expand in the future.”
October 2011: greetings from Beirut to our friends and supporters
The volunteers of Lebanon Trust are at the moment in Beirut, working at the Father Andeweg Institute for the Deaf (as proven by the picture of our latest volunteer Noel: please notice the staircase before and after his masterly intervention) and enjoying the marvellous weather and the hospitality of the Lebanese people.

March 2011: update from the Father Andeweg Institute for the Deaf
Thanks to last year’s donation, all the pupils during the current school year can have individual speech therapy, once or twice a week, according to their need.
Our goal for 2011 is to keep financing the speech therapist, as well as help financing some much-needed professional training for the other teachers.
March 2011: Lebanon Trust helps financing much-needed reconstruction work at the kindergarten of the Chatila refugee camp in Beirut
The kindergarten is currently housed in a cramped building on a one-person-wide lane, with small and damp rooms. A project exists to transfer the kindergarten to a larger and better building nearby, which however needs renovation. Lebanon Trust participates in this project with $2’500, financing the reconstruction of the inner walls. Thanks to our generous donors, the children of the refugee camp will soon have a better and healthier kindergarten, with larger rooms, natural light and no more damp. Work started March 1st.
